About the Nikon; I'm generally very very satisfied and happy with the D70. Depending on what you prefer, or if you pretend buying accessories, another camera might be better, though. For example, if you prefer working in automatic mode or are planning to take a lot of flash pictures without buying an extra flash, the D50 might be the better choice..the integrated flash is better, while the other options are basically the same or very similar.
Oh, both cameras are compatible with the Tamron 80-300 lens, which is BRILLIANT!
